Overview of the Degree Programme

Biotechnology is a multidisciplinary field comprising an exciting range of scientific fields such as,molecular biology, genetics, immunology, microbiology, pharmacology, fermentation, agriculture, biochemistry, medical and environmental sciences.

The B.Sc. (Hons) program is an intensive three-year degree program covering 120 credits which will equip undergraduates with vast theory knowledge, first hand practical experience in laboratory as well as in industry and a research project which enable them to excel in their profession with confidence.

This multidisciplinary program also focuses on electives in management, ethics, commercialization, marketing and entrepreneurship paving the pathway to become globally recognized scientists and researchers.

Entry Requirements

Two principle passes preferably in Chemistry & Biology in G.C.E. A/L Examination (Local) G.C.E. O/L, A/L done in English medium or band score 5.0 in IELTS.

OR

2 E preferably in Chemistry & Biology (or Physics) for A2 in London Examination. If only AS level is completed, registration will be considered under diploma criteria.

G.C.E. O/L, A/L done in english medium or band score 5.0 in IELTS.

OR

Diploma in a related field. (with a Pass) G.C.E. O/L, A/L done in English medium or band sore 5.0 in IELTS.

The course features a multi-disciplinary program serving students desiring to gain a broad spectrum of knowledge and experience in the emerging fields of Biotechnology focusing on Molecular Biology, Genetic Engineering, Tissue Culture, Biochemistry, Agriculture, Food Science, Forensic Science, Microbiology, Environmental Biology, Biomedical Science, Pharmacology.

This programme is an innovative multi-disciplinary degree that was developed with inputs from key industry players and the academicians. It features biotechnology modules coupled with electives in Business, Communications, Marketing, Accounting, Entrepreneurship, Graduate Preparation and many more paving the pathway to become globally recognized scientists and researchers.

The multi-disciplinary character of Biotechnology provides promising opportunities in research and development, quality control and regulation, clinical research, manufacturing and production, marketing and sales, information systems, academic field, administration as well as entrepreneurship. It encompasses an ever-growing range of techniques for the alteration and manipulation of molecules, genes and cells and often involves the harnessing of biological processes for a particular purpose. The biotechnology industry is based on the commercial exploitation of these techniques.

Internships

Horizon Campus encourage and assist the undergraduatestudents to participate in high-quality internships to gain valuable professional experience in their chosen area.Collaborating with companies and organizations in a variety of sectors builds students’ professional connections and gives them a competitive advantage in terms of their future employment.

The type of internships that students participate in vary; from working in companies and organizations, to doing research projects and working with a professor. The internship will be conducted at the final semester of the programme for a duration of 4-6 months.
