Horizon Campus has yet again produced excellent results at examinations held for the Certificate in Higher Education in Common Law and the LLB offered by the University of London. The overall pass rates for the Cert.HE and the LLB are a commendable 88%, which is a continuation of such results that has been achieved over the past several years.
These achievements are a testament to the quality, dedication, commitment and excellence of the Campus in providing a strong foundation in the knowledge and skills required for students to be effective legal professionals. The Faculty’s teaching system and curricular modules focus on grooming employable lawyers to progress into chambering who are well-trained on the basics, proficient in the legal language used by practitioners and are able to conduct research well.
Expressing her views on her achievement at this year’s examinations, one of the top achievers, Ra’na Farouk credited her lecturers lavishly by stating ‘their tireless efforts helped me on my journey for success”. She also ascribed that the academically excellent and value-added curriculum delivered by Horizon Campus allows law students to develop a wide berth of skills that makes them versatile and highly employable in the job market. “I feel a mixed emotion of pride and a sense of humbleness after my stint at Horizon Campus. Pride at my scores at the CertHE in Common Law examination 2017 conducted by the University of London and humbleness that every single of my tutors, who have achieved so much more, found the time and spared no pains in guiding me through my first year. Apart from the academic satisfaction at Horizon Campus, I have acquired the ability to surmount any obstacle and reach out stronger. Moreover, the atmosphere of sharing and caring and the sense of belonging to one large family lends that additional impetus to draw out the best in me. I am excited at the prospect of completing my legal studies with distinction at Horizon”.
Commenting on his accomplishment, Rehan Perera said, ” When I chose to enroll in the University of London International Programs for LLB (Hons) at Horizon Campus, I didn’t quite know what to expect. I didn’t know if I would be good at it or if I had the stamina to read and retain all the information, be analytical and produce good results. However, with the support of my lecturers who provided me with the guidance and motivation that I needed to find my way during this journey, I began to find that this course was not designed for students who just would learn and memorize information and reproduce it on paper. Instead, the curriculum was designed and delivered with such ingenuity that it allowed students to think for themselves, be creative and bold, and express their own unique points of view regarding complex legal situations. I believe it is such factors that has given me the opportunity to develop my skills and understanding of Law and achieve the results that I did. In addition, Students were given the necessary freedoms and their own place in campus by the management, which made it so much easier to focus on the challenges of the degree”
Applauding their high achievers Dr. Ruwan Perera, Acting Vice Chancellor and Dean for International Programs at Horizon Campus said “It is gratifying to see our students compete in international exams and excel in them by receiving the excellent results from the University of London .We are extremely proud of our students who have achieved overall pass rates of over 88% over the 3 years. Since its foundation, the Faculty of Education at Horizon Campus has provided a significant contribution to the field, through its initiatives and programs, aimed at the formation and the continuing professional development of professional and expert educators.
The management of Horizon Campus has now identified that preprimary education is a neglected sector that deserves special attention and identified that investment in the field of early childhood education is a key requirement in our society. The improvement of the psychological and physiological health of children as well as their performance in school is seen as paramount in their further educational formation. Horizon Campus is now launching an early childhood education program that is designed in response to the increasing need for certified early childhood educators.
The course moulds aspirant teachers to teach in preschool and primary schools and helps develop the exact teaching skills required to teach children in the age group of 2-7 years. The unique program sets itself apart by featuring an introduction to infant-toddler mental health course, where students study how children, aged birth to three years, develop socially and emotionally and how this serves as a foundation for their future wellness and learning. By end of the course the teachers will be fully equipped with competencies essential for an effective preschool teacher along with a clear perception and understanding of the young learners, maturity levels, abilities, needs, interests and potentialities.
Mr.Upul Dharanagama Chairman of Horizon Campus stated “this is a major investment we are undertaking in helping to meet the early childhood education needs in our country. It is our aim that all 2 to 7 year olds have access to early childhood education as we believes that even in their early years, children are highly capable and competent, regardless of their background or experiences and that the early childhood years offer a unique window of opportunity in which to nurture a child’s development. Positive learning experiences in this period lay the firm foundation that is essential if children are to reach their full potential. Therefore it is essential that we have the right educators to teach and guide these children and we know that the success of early education rests on its quality, and that quality itself depends upon the educators and leaders on the ground. Hence our mission through this program is to train early childhood educators, with high-quality, high-impact professional learning opportunities and to prepare a new generation of leaders in early childhood education with the knowledge, and the tools, to change and impact the field.”
The program is open to early childhood educators who wish to further develop their teaching skills and capacities, as well as others with an interest in developing skills in building a career as early childhood educators.
