Horizon Campus, Malabe recently held its annual convocation to confer Diplomas, Degrees and Post Graduate Degrees on its Master of Business Administration students and undergraduates, graduating from International partner Universities.
The Deputy Minister for Public Enterprise Development, Hon. Eran Wickaramarathne graced this occasion as the Chief Guest, with Mr. Chris Jenney, Head of International Institutions, The University of London International Programmes also in attendance.
Students who completed their MBA programmes, were awarded by Horizon Campus, undergraduates who completed the LL.B and B.Sc. degrees from the University of London International Programmes and undergraduates who completed their Bachelor’s degrees from the Buckinghamshire New University and Herzing University, USA and Diplomates who completed the Tertiary & Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) approved Pre-School Education programmes were conferred with their respective award at the ceremony.
Minister Wickramarathne emphasized on the necessity of private higher education in the country, to cater for the large segment of students who do not get the privilege of entering the state sector universities. He was also keen to point out the shortage of skilled labour and attributed the same to the lack of accommodation for all those eligible but not accepted to local universities. Mr. Wickramarathne was commended the efforts taken by Horizon Campus and the hard work undertaken by its graduates in making the event a reality. He had this to say in congratulating the graduates on their achievements; “To the graduates, my main piece of advice for you today is simple:
“You have been equipped with skills, qualifications and vision – now give back to your country. All of you undoubtedly have the capability to lead our nation and drive its economy. As you begin your working life, do not shirk that responsibility by flying out for a higher pay or a more ‘dignified’ job. There is no greater contentment than giving back to your motherland.”
Mr. Upul Daranagama, Chairman, Horizon Group, The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Colin Peiris, Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ajitha Wanasinghe, academic and non-academic staff, special invitees and family members of the graduates were also in attendance on this solemn evening.
