This degree program provides students with a broad knowledge of current biotechnology. The degree focuses on the multidisciplinary nature of the subject, with expertise from other areas to supplement a thorough study of biotechnology. Cutting-edge technologies to biotechnological procedures are included in creative ways to equip students in the up to date practical and research skills.

This is a multidisciplinary program aiming at providing students with sound theoretical knowledge, practical skills, attitudes and skills necessary to prepare them for emerging career pathways.

The major subfields of Biotechnology including Genetics & Molecular Biology, Plant Cell & Tissue Culture, Pharmaceuticals & Natural Product Biotechnology, Food & Nutrition Biotechnology, Microbial Biotechnology and Environmental Biotechnology are covered in the study programme. The industrial and field excursions with nature exploration are included to provide the students with first-hand knowledge and life-long learning. The above academic modules are coupled with electives in Business, Communication, Entrepreneurship, Graduate preparation and many more, paving the pathway to become a globally recognized graduate.

The final year research project entails students to investigate on a topic, engaging with the scholarly debates in the relevant disciplines that enhance the independent thinking and analytical skills. Finally, there is an opportunity to work in an industrial environment (6-month internship) with different professionals to gain experience, apply and explore the knowledge acquired in the classroom and wider society.

Career Opportunities

When considering the Biotechnology degrees, one common biotechnology career path, laboratory work is not the sole choice. The Biotechnology field and its careers span over other functional areas that are just as integral parts in getting a meaningful biotechnology product to market through areas such as research and development, quality assurance/regulatory affairs, manufacturing, clinical research, policymaking, food, animal and environmental science, sales and technical support, business and project management sectors.

Scientists in the fields of Medical, Pharmaceutical, Biomedical Engineering, Agricultural, Food and Nutrition, Bioinformatics, forensic investigations as well as Biochemists, Microbiologists, Marine Biologists, Biomanufacturing Specialists, Business Development Managers, Entrepreneurs, Academia are few examples of the most in-demand biotechnology careers that are shaping the student’s future.

Panel of Lecturers

The concept of Business Management was alien to the world of business a few decades ago. Need to manage a business enterprise scientifically evolved due to many globe sweeping trends. Globalization based on deregulated trade across national borders, travel, fast and efficient passage of information, growing competition, change of consumer needs, infusion of technology into business and household lives, and regional and global trade agreements created massive strides in the business world. All such growing trends generated a world-wide demand for young graduates who are knowledgeable, and have the proper mix of competence and attitudes. These requirements cannot be met by a conventional degree program focusing on class room teaching and passing examinations.
